Do you have OSD (On Screen Display) for the menu controls or Digital (LED lights) controls?

NOTE: OSD controls will show you on-screen menus to adjust your screen.  Non-OSD will have LED lights on front of monitor.

How to check if your monitor’s OSD menu controls are functioning properly.

If you have a monitor that has OSD (On Screen Display) controls, please check the following steps.

1.      Depending on the monitor, the way to access your OSD may vary.  You may have a button that says, “Mode”; “Select” or it might even be a large round knob.  Push the button or knob.

2.      After pushing the correct menu button, there should appear on the screen some sort of Menu Screen with different selection options or icons.

If after pushing the appropriate OSD button, no OSD menu appears, click HERE.

1.      While the main OSD menu is on the screen, use the “Select” buttons (or turn the knob to highlight and push on some models) to select the appropriate sub-menu option or icon.

2.      Once selected, use “Adjust” buttons (or turn the knob to highlight and push on some models) to make the adjustments.  See your user manual for more help.

Click to CONTINUE.

If your adjustment selection CAN move;

But NOTHING is adjusting on your screen, click HERE.

And something IS adjusting on your screen, just not adjusting far enough, click HERE.

If your adjustment selection CAN’T move at all, click HERE.

It looks as if you have reached the maximum value of your monitor’s menu controls.  An example would be; the sides of the screen can move inward but not outward all the way.  If this appears to be what has happened, the only way to correct this is to have your monitor serviced.  Please contact our Customer Service Department.

Are you experiencing?

Burning smell or odor

Abnormal noises from monitor (not the speakers)

If you’re experiencing any sort of odor or burning smell from the monitor and you have no display, chances are it needs to be serviced.  Please contact our Customer Service Department.

If you do have a display, chases are the smell is do to the making of the monitor and should dissipate within a few days.

If you’re hearing noises coming from your monitor such as; repeated clicking, buzzing, high pitching sounds or any other sort of abnormal sounds, chances are the monitor needs to be serviced.  Please contact our Customer Service Department.

Note: If these noises are coming from our PTI speakers (mounted on the sides of the monitor), then the problem most likely lies with the speakers.  See Speaker Problems.

It appears as if your menu controls are not functioning properly, try installing our PTI Driver first.

See if ANY of the menu controls work at all.  If no controls work, please contact our Customer Service Department.

How to check if your monitor’s Digital menu controls are functioning properly.

If you have a monitor that has LED lights on the front of the monitor, please check the following steps.

1.      Make sure when you hit the appropriate menu button; “Select”, “Mode”, etc; the first of the three lights on the front of the monitor light up.  When you push the same button again, the second light should light up, etc.

2.       After the light is lit, use the adjust or arrow keys to adjust your screen.

If after pushing the appropriate button, no light(s) appears, click HERE.

If you do get the lights to come up, click to CONTINUE.

Please choose.

Microphone not working

Microphone missing (can’t find it)

Need Mic cable

If you need a microphone cable, manual or driver disk, please follow the following steps:

1.      Fax us a copy of your sales receipt

2.      Write on the fax your complete name and address.

3.      Write on it a brief description of what it is you want.

4.      Make sure you include the ‘Product Number’ of the monitor you have. (located on back of monitor)

5.      Fax to 714-379-6290.

If you feel your monitor should have a microphone but can not locate it, follow these steps:

1.      Look on the backside of your monitor for a 1/8” mini stereo jack hole that says ‘Mic Out’ on it. NOTE: LCD monitor’s have a separate microphone that should be included with the monitor.

2.      If you do not have a hole for the microphone then your particular model of monitor does not come equipped with a microphone.  In this case you would need to purchase a microphone separately.

3.      Some know PTI monitor?s that do not come standard with a built-in microphone are the SA-769, SA-7692, PX-769, PX-7695, PS-769 and EZ-720.  There may be additional models that also do not come with a built-in microphone.  Please see the monitor?s specification on our website at www.proview.net.

Microphone Not Working:

If you are experiencing problems with your built-in microphone or you can’t record anything please read the following.  Most all of our monitors have a built-in (all condenser type) microphone.  The microphone may be located at the bottom or near the top of the monitor and can be seen by the slits in the monitor.  You may also have a hole in the front of the monitor that says ‘Mic’.  This is to attach an external mic.  When this external mic is attached, the internal mic is automatically turned off.  There should be a ‘male-to-male’ wire going from the back of the monitor, where is says, “Mic Out”, going to the back of the computer’s sound card (usually) where it says, “Mic In”.  Sometimes the ports on the sound card are color-coded and don’t actually say which holes are Mic In, Line In or Line Out.  If this is the case, the ‘White’ is usually the ‘Line Out’ or ‘Speaker Out’ (this hole is for the longest wire that goes to your speaker).  Purple is usually for the ‘Line In’ and the Green hole is usually for the ‘Mic In’ (this is the one you should put your mic in).  To even test if your microphone is working you need to be running some type of recording program.  Win95/98 come with, albeit, a small one.  Make sure your speakers are working and you’re getting sound.  If you have everything hooked up properly and are still not getting positive results, it may be a software control issue.  If it is a software control issue, try double clicking on the small yellow speaker in the System Tray (usually located in the bottom right section of the screen).  You should see a few slide controls.  Make sure none of these are on mute and all the levels are at the middle or above.   Next, go to the top where it says, “Options”; go to “Properties”.  Next, make sure all the boxes below have check marks in them.  Click on the circle where it says, “Recording”.  Again, make sure all the boxes below have check marks in them.  Next, click on “OK”.  Make sure none of the slides are checked ‘Mute’ AND (if you see boxes that say, ‘Select’), make sure all these boxes are checked.  If you continue to have difficulties with your software, please contact the maker of your computer or the store from which you purchased your monitor for more help.

If after trying all these step and your microphone still does not work, please contact our Customer Service Department.

Please choose one of the following physical problems you are having with your monitor:

Casing, screen or base is cracked

Base won’t stay on

Base won’t tilt or swivel

Missing monitor parts

Note: For missing speakers, click HERE.

If the monitor won’t tilt up, grab the bottom left and right corners of the monitor with both hands at the same time.  While swiveling the monitor from left to right, back and forth (keep dong this), pull the monitor toward you and up.  This should tilt the monitor up.

If the monitor won’t tilt down, grab the bottom left and right corners of the monitor with both hands at the same time.  While swiveling the monitor from left to right, back and forth (keep dong this), push the monitor away from you and down.  This should tilt the monitor down.

If the monitor’s base won’t go on, try the following:

1.      Place the monitor on a firm surface upside down.

2.      Insert the base in the front side of the monitor first, then push down slowly but firmly.

3.      Make sure the base is secure on the monitor then turn the monitor up right.

Is the base on securely now?  YES  /  NO

If the casing, screen or base became cracked or ruined during shipping going to you from us, please contact our Customer Service Department.

If the damage was caused by another means, the damage is not covered under the warranty.

Do you have a power light?  YES / NO

Try these steps to check your power source .

1.      Try plugging the monitor in to a different outlet. (Not just another plug on the same powerstrip)

2.      Make sure the Power cord is plugged in firmly into the power outlet. (and into the back of the monitor on some models)

Do you have a picture now or at least a power light? YES / NO

On some of our newer monitors we have incorporated what is called "soft switch" technology. This allows your ATX power supplied computer to turn your monitor on and off using it’s software controls. Therefore, your monitor’s light will always stay on blinking even when your computer is off.

The monitor in normal operation consumes about 80W of power; in the "OFF" state it will be reduced below 8W.  The "OFF" mode of the monitor can be controlled by the PC input signal or by pushing the soft-power button to disable the PC signal control for manually turning off the monitor screen.

Thus, when the monitor is in soft-power "OFF" mode it still consumes a very small amount of power.  For the purpose of making it noticeable to the user that the monitor is in soft-power "OFF" mode, we designed the power indicator to provide for a slow blinking signal (every 2 seconds).  If you need to totally turn off the power, then the power cord would have to be unplugged.  The same is true of the PC itself, but the PC does not provide for notification while in "OFF" mode.

NOTE: If the monitor is only in "Stand-By" mode, (moving the mouse will bring it back on) the LED power light will blink once every .7 seconds.  When the monitor is in it's soft-switch "OFF" mode, the LED power light will blink once every 2 seconds.

What do you see on the screen?

Completely black screen but have power light

Completely white screen

"Frequency Out Of Range" message on screen (monitor then goes blank)

"Monitor Is Working - Check PC & Signal Cable" message on screen

No picture AND no power light

1.      Make sure your system is not in stand-by mode. (Restart your computer to make sure)

1.      Make sure the signal cable from the monitor is hooked up correctly and is inserted into the back of the computer securely.

2.      Make sure none of the pins on the signal cable are bent or broken. (It’s normal for some pins to be missing entirely)

3.      Make sure your computer is turned on and working properly. (Your monitor is waiting for a signal from your computer to tell the monitor to turn on)

4.      Try turning on your computer and monitor in a different sequence.

Do you have a picture now? YES / NO

Do you see ANY text when you first start your computer?  YES / NO

Usually when you receive this error message it’s because your video card has specified an “unknown refresh rate”.  If the problem you’re having happens when your computer boots up and then right when it gets to the Windows95/98 screen (or shortly afterward), the monitor shuts down or displays the error message "Frequency out of range", follow the numbered steps:

1.      Turn off computer.  Make sure the hard drive has stopped and all the drives are cleared of any disks.

2.      Boot your computer up in Safe mode.  Usually this is done by pressing the F8 key just after you turn on the computer.  See your computer manufacturer for more help on how to do this.

3.      After pressing F8 it will bring up a DOS menu with numbered choices.  Choose option 3.  This will bring you up in "Windows Safe Mode".  Again, see your computer's manufacturer for additional help on how to do this.

4.      Once in 'Safe Mode", go to "Display Properties".  You can get there by clicking the right mouse button and choose "Properties".

5.      Go to the "Settings" tab.  Click on the tab at the top of the box that says "Settings".

6.      Click on the box at the bottom that says ‘Advanced’ or ‘Advanced Properties’.  If your option says ‘Change Display Type’ instead, you need to contact your video card or your computer’s manufacturer and find out where you can adjust your video card’s refresh rate.

7.      Click on the tab at the top that says ‘Adapter’. Click on the tab at the top of the box that says ‘Adapter’.

8.      Change the ‘Refresh Rate’ to ‘Adapter Default’.  There should be an option for this near the bottom.

9.      Click ‘OK’.  If it asks you if you want to restart your computer or if it says it is about to change your monitor’s refresh rate, click ‘OK’.

10.  Restart your computer up normally.  (Do NOT boot up in safe mode this time)

11.  You may now need to go back into ‘Advanced Display Properties’, and this time go to the ‘Monitor’ tab and change the monitor to ‘Standard monitor type’; ‘Plug-N-Play’.  You may also obtain our driver from our PTI Website to increase color/resolution.

Do you have a picture now? YES  /  NO

After following the previous steps and you restarted, did the monitor do the same thing as before? (When the computer is first started you can see some text but when it starts to boot Windows the monitor goes blank?)  Is this what happened?  YES  /  NO

Can you see ANY text or writing on the monitor screen at the computer’s start-up?

YES  / NO

It’s possible the computer didn’t keep the changes.  Try the steps again.  Click HERE.

You’ve tried this a 2nd time and it’s still not coming on, click HERE.

If you’ve tried the suggested steps twice and there still is no picture, but you do see text in the beginning, these may be possible problems:

1.      Your monitor may only be working in certain resolutions.  To test this, follow the suggested steps once more(booting up in “Safe Mode”) and while under the “Settings” tab, set the monitor’s resolution to different settings; such as, 640X480, 800X600 or 1024X768.  Set it to something different from what you normally have it set at.  Try ALL the different resolutions.  (In safe mode it will always be at 640X480)  Remember to follow the rest of the suggested steps. (do not restart your computer after only switching to a different resolution, finish ALL the steps)

2.      Your computer?s software settings for your Video Card or the Monitor may be incorrectly set up in Windows or may have more than 1 driver selected for each piece of hardware.  To test this, boot up in ?Safe Mode?, go to ?System Properties? from ?Control Panel? and click on the Tab that says ?Device Manager?.  Make sure under ?Display Adapters? it specifies the correct driver for your Video Card.  Check your card or computer manufacturer if you?re not sure how to set up the driver.  There may be a ?Monitor? selection in there as well(or maybe not because the video card must be set up properly first).  If there is, make sure a ?Plug & Play? or ? PTI ? driver is specified.  There should be only ONE driver for each piece of hardware.  If there is more than one driver, highlight one at a time and click the ?Remove? box until there is only one left.  The driver remaining should be ?Plug & Play? or some kind of ? PTI ? driver.  And the properties of that one remaining driver(check by clicking the ?Properties? box) should have a check mark in the ?Exists in all hardware profiles? box.

After trying all these suggestions and it still boots up(in normal mode) with NO PICTURE, click HERE.

If you’ve tried the suggested steps twice and there IS a picture now but does not work in ALL the different resolutions, click HERE.

If you’ve tried the suggested steps twice and there IS a picture now but the screen’s colors or resolution do not look right, click HERE.

The problem may possibly be with the computer itself or the software.  Please contact your computer’s manufacturer and describe the problem to them.  Tell them your monitor IS working.

**********SECTION 1********************************************************

Installing PTI Monitor Driver for Win95 / Win98:

Note: If you have Windows 3.1, this driver will not work.  Please see ‘Windows 3.1 Users’

1.      Go to ‘Display Properties’.  You can access this either by simply clicking the right mouse button from the desktop and selecting ‘Properties’ or going to ‘Control Panel’ and selecting ‘Monitor’.

2.      Go to the ‘Settings’ tab and select ‘Advanced Properties’.  It may say ‘Change Display Type’ for some Win95 users or ‘Advanced’ for Windows 98 users.

3.      Click on the ?Monitor? tab.  Here it will tell you which monitor driver you are currently using, or it may say it?s ?unknown?.  If it says, ?Plug & Play?, this should work too, but you may experience higher resolution and color using our PTI driver.

4.      Click on ‘Change’.  This is to change the monitor driver.  Windows may start to build a “driver information database”, which is o.k.  If this happens, click ‘Next’ until you can see a button that says ‘Have Disk’.

5.      Click on ‘Have Disk’.  This is to load our driver (proview.inf) from your floppy disk or your hard drive.  This file is most likely in a directory on your hard drive under C:\proview which was created by the self-extracting/executing file called proviewpnp.exe.

6.      Click on ‘Browse’.  You should see a box that says ‘Install From Disk’.  Windows 98 may differ slightly.

7.      Find our proview.inf file, select it and click ‘OK’.  This file should be in your ‘C:\proview’ directory.  If you don’t see a folder called ‘proview’ under your C:\ directory, try double-clicking directly on the ‘C:\’ itself, then scroll down and find the ‘proview’ folder.  Double-click on the ‘proview’ folder.  This should highlight a file on the left called ‘proview.inf’.  Note: If you still can’t find the ‘proview.inf’ file, you can use the program ‘Windows Explorer’; go to ‘Tools’ then to ‘Find’ then to ‘Files and Folders’.  Type in “proview.inf” (without parentheses) in the top line and search all your drives, starting with your C:\ drive first.  Note: If you can’t find the folder ‘proview’, re-download the self-executable file ‘proviewpnp.exe’ then follow these steps again.

8.      You will be returned to ?Install From Disk?, Click ?OK?.  This should bring up a list of PTI Drivers.

9.      Highlight the PTI driver that matches your monitor?s product number.  Click ?OK?.  Windows may build a driver database file.  This will take a few seconds.  After this it will bring you back to ?Advanced Properties?.

10.  In ‘Advanced Properties’ click ‘Apply’.  It will ask you if you wish to restart your computer or apply the setting without restarting.  (Your choice – PICK ONE).  If you choose to restart your computer, the new driver will take place automatically.  If you choose to apply new settings without restarting your computer, it will pop up a few boxes asking you if this is OK.  Click ‘OK’ on all the boxes.  The new settings should take place and you will be returned to ‘Display Properties’.  From here, if you wish to resize your screen or change the number of colors you want to use, click on the ‘Settings’ tab and select your choices accordingly.  It is recommended that you reboot your computer so all the changes can take affect.

SECTION 2

Windows 3.1 Users:

If you?re using Windows 3.1, our PTI driver will not work.  There is, however, a way to configure your computer for use with our monitor using a maximum of 256 colors.  To set up your computer for proper use with our monitor please follow the steps below.

1.  Go to an MS-DOS prompt.  You can usually get to one by closing Windows

2.  Go to the ‘Windows’ directory so the prompt looks like this: C:\Windows>.  If the prompt looks like C:\> or it’s in any directory other than ‘Windows’, then it’s wrong.  If you don’t know what you’re doing, follow this very simple step to get to C:\Windows>.  At the prompt type CD\Windows and this will bring you directly to C:\Windows>.

3.  Type “SETUP” without the quotes.  You will see an option there for monitor or display.

Change your monitor’s settings to your desired resolution/color.  It will have choices from which to choose.  Example: “640x480 256-Color / Small Fonts” or “800x600 16-Color / Large Fonts” or “640x480 16-Color / Large Fonts”, etc.  Pick one of these settings.

4.  Exit SETUP.

5.  Return to Windows.  To return to Windows 3.1 type “WIN”. (no parentheses)

SECTION 3

Downloading PTI Monitor Driver:

To get our monitor drivers off our Website, go to www.proview.net.  On our main page click on the link that says ?Drivers?.  Save the file called ?proviewpnp.exe? to your hard drive.  Save it to your hard drive anywhere you wish.  This file is a self-extracting/executing file.  Just downloading this file will not automatically install it.  You need to follow the installation instructions ?Installing PTI Monitor Driver? to install this driver.  There are also instructions in a ?readme? file located in the directory c:\proview.

Another way to download our PTI driver is to visit our international website at http://proviewintl.com/doc/dwn.html .  Click on the link ? PTI pnp.exe?.

SECTION 9

OSD = On Screen Display:

On some monitors you have a function called OSD.  This simply means, On Screen Display.  If your monitor supports OSD, you can adjust your monitor’s picture and actually see the controls on your monitor screen.  This is a nice feature and makes it easier to change your monitor’s picture settings.  Some of these adjustments include: ‘Size’, ‘Position’, ‘Pincushion’,  ‘Contrast’, ‘Brightness’, ‘Degauss’, ‘Reset’, etc.  Your options may vary depending on your particular model number.  See your instruction manual for adjustment functions.  The controls on your monitor will not adjust your desktop area, such as the number of pixels or the number of colors used.  These settings are controlled by your 'Display Properties' under the tab 'Settings', which can be found in your control panel.  If you do happen to change some settings on your monitor, you can always hit 'reset' and it will return all your setting to the factory defaults.  You can not permanently damage the monitor by changing its settings on the monitor.  You can however, accidentally change some settings under 'Display Properties' in Windows that may damage your monitor if you don't follow the correct instructions.  If you do change some settings accidentally and you don’t know how to change them back, it would take someone with computer knowledge to switch them back to their original settings.

Power Saving Mode – Energy Star Compliant:

Our monitors support power saving mode and are energy star compliant. The controls to take advantage of this feature are in Windows. You may find it under 'Display Properties' under the ‘Screen Saver’ tab.

For Win95 users:  Power Saving Mode is located in 'Display Properties'.  To get to 'Display Properties', go to 'Control Panel' from the 'Start' menu.  At the top of the 'Display Properties' box, you'll see a tab that says, 'Screen Saver', click on it.  Near the bottom, you'll see some energy saving features.  Choose the features you want to use.

For Win98 users:  Power Saving Mode is located in 'Display Properties'.  To get to 'Display Properties', go to 'Control Panel' from the 'Start' menu.  At the top of the 'Display Properties' box, you'll see a tab that says, 'Screen Saver', click on it.  Click on the box at the bottom that says 'Settings'.  It will bring you to a new box that says, 'Power Management Properties'.  Under the tab called 'Power Schemes', you'll see the controls to either keep your monitor on all the time or choose how long you would like it to stay on, etc.  If you are having problems with your monitor shutting off with the screen saver and then not coming back on, try setting the monitor to the 'always on' position.

Additional Power Saving features: Additional power saving mode features are located in 'Display Properties' under the ‘Settings’ tab.  To get to 'Display Properties', go to 'Control Panel' from the 'Start' menu.  At the top of the 'Display Properties' box, you'll see a tab that says, 'Settings', click on it.  At the bottom click on a box that says ‘Advanced Settings’ or ‘Advanced’ (earlier Win95 users have ‘Change Display Settings’).

Note: All our new monitor’s are equipped with soft-switch technology.  In short, the power light on the front of the monitor will continue to flash even though you turned your computer off.  For more information, click HERE.

Cleaning Your Monitor:

Keeping your monitor clean is important.  Never use harsh abrasives or flammable solutions on the monitor.  Using a moist cloth is ok, but make sure it’s not too moist to where moisture could drip into sensitive parts of the monitor.

Note:  Some monitors may have been shipped with a sticker on the screen that leaves a sticky film after removal.  To remove this sticky film, try using Deflux.  You may find Deflux at auto parts stores and the alike.

SECTION 15

Degauss Function:

This feature is to demagnetize your monitor.  This eliminates the build-up of stray magnetic fields which alter the correct scan of the electron beams and affect the purity of the screen colors, focus, and convergence.  When pressed, your image will jump and waiver a bit as the screen is demagnetized.

Note:  This feature may be a button that looks like a lightning bolt or it may just say “Degauss” in an On Screen Display.
